Description
David Schildknecht: Harvested October 3, its alcoholicfermentation very late but complete (at 13.1% alcohol, just 2 gramsof residual sugar were left!), Humbrecht’s 2007 Riesling RangenClos Saint Urbain is marked by extreme smokiness often associatedwith this site, along with struck flint notes of a reductive sortthat it exhibited also in cask. Grapefruit rind pungency andpineapple prickle inform a lean, bright, faintly oily palate andthe wine lunges for your palate in the finish, gripping tightlywith salt, iodine, peat, Szechuan pepper, and citrus oils. This,Humbrecht agrees, might be thought of as a marriage of the 2001 and1996 renditions, except that it’s cleaner then either. You canexpect it to need 6-8 years to reveal its true potential and to bea 15 or more year keeper.
