Allen Meadows: A background application of wood spice can be
detected on the very fresh and unusually high-toned nose, indeed
this is presently even airy with a mix of red berry fruit and only
touches of earth. There is outstanding richness to the seductively
textured and suave big-bodied flavors that also brim with palate
coating dry extract that pushes the very firm tannic spine to the
background on the hugely persistent finish that is a bit less
austere than usual. This is packed with potential, in fact it is so
good that I would go so far as to say that it's the best young
Mugneret Clos de Vougeot that I have seen in a long time and I
include the great vintages of the past for it such as 1959, 1961,
1964 1966, 1976 and 1991 in that statement. Note that this
stunningly beautiful effort should more than fully reward
longer-term cellaring and it will need at least 8 to 10 years
before it will be enjoyable.
